I am aware of most of the BASIC  rules for writing a good Web story as I have been writing for my company’s internet and intranet sites for years.  I even pass these tips on to my co-workers to help their communication skills as well.

To help my readers, I use:

  • links
  • bullets
  • information chunking
  • headlines
  • bold type
  • videos
  • pictures

What I did learn from the BASIC  information is that the first two words are crucial, tagging (which I currently struggle adding meta-tagging on our corporate website) is easy to use and the F shape pattern (first time I have heard of this) is how most people scan the Web.  These make sense as I am always trying to figure out how to get our Web site pages listed higher on Google searches and offering information in an easy to scan format.

Conversation is another newer term that I have not had to add to my company’s Web site, but will need to consider for the near future as this trend increases.  It looks like I will need to start blogging (outside of this class) and responding to contributors.

The articles were definitely a good refresher on the areas I know about and a real eye opener on the information that was new to me.
